What is a balance group?
A balance group is a virtual structure that creates groups of market operators for billing, accounting, and energy capacity planning purposes. These groups are used to “balance” the energy generated and the energy consumed at all times creates costs. In order to offset these, each balance group is charged for its balance of energy, i.e. for the difference between the scheduled values and the actual values of energy consumption and generation.

Why should I join?
Membership of a balance group is obligatory for all registered operators (producer, distribution/transport operator, and supplier) in the Romanian market unless they belong to an independent balance group. It has definite advantages: the larger the number of players in the group, the lower the balance energy costs. In fact, a large proportion of the variations can be offset within the same balance group. This is known as value-difference packaging or difference bulking.
